Vet solutions introduces new computer system to PDSA

Britain’s number one veterinary charity, PDSA, is to install Vet solutions’ PremVet5 computerised management system across its 45 sites in Britain.

PremVet5 provides PDSA with a flexible and robust system to support the Pet Aid hospital service. It will aid hospital management by providing reports tailored to the needs of the business. It will also provide a central stock control system.

In addition, PDSA will also be able to take advantage of PremVet5’s fast and efficient support service.

"PDSA chose PremVet5 after rigorous evaluation and assessment," says Vet solutions’ chief executive Julian Bryan. "As one of the country’s largest single users of veterinary practice computer systems, PDSA's technical and veterinary staff had to be completely satisfied that their requirements for support, data handling and processing at each site and centrally could be met, and also that they would have access to a 24-hour service to keep their systems up and running."

All PDSA PetAid hospitals, from Aberdeen to Plymouth, will now be linked to the charity’s head office in Telford.

"Once PremVet5 is in and running at every centre we will be able to monitor the use of our charitable funds more efficiently. We will have enhanced statistics on trends in animal health across the country and access to information which will help us to develop clinical audits," says PDSA’s director of veterinary services Gairn Ross. "We plan to make this available to other animal welfare charities and the veterinary profession."

PremVet5 uses the Unix operating system which has been popular in the veterinary profession because of its speed and stability. Launched earlier this year to update an earlier version of theprogram, PremVet5 provides a unique approach to Windows integration. It allows its users to seamlessly transfer information to word processing or spreadsheet files for mail merge or data analysis.
