New
service improves internet access and security
Veterinary practice management systems company Vet solutions
has developed a new service to enable internet access and
provide email communication, while at the same time ensuring
the practice systems remains secure. The new service, EnServe,
means that all practice terminals can have internet access
and receive email with the confidence of in-built security
mechanisms.
“Many veterinary practices would benefit from more
widespread access to the internet, rather than relying on
access through one single computer,” says Vet solutions’ Julian
Bryan. “But there have been real concerns about security.
“Our developers have added highly reliable security
technology to the EnServe service, such as two levels of
firewall to protect against ‘hackers’ and anti-virus
scanning to check all inbound and outbound emails and files.
This will protect all terminals within the practice. In addition,
the anti virus software is automatically updated as new updates
are released.”
EnServe
also has options for customers to control and log the access
to
specified sites and filter spam to control ‘junk’ emails.
“With
the rapid increase in broadband availability, many practices
are reviewing their internet access policy
but are nervous about taking advantage of the new facilities.
With EnServe, these worries are managed by a special software
package installed on the existing server or independent EnBox.
This device acts as the secure gateway for all internet and
email communication to and from the veterinary practice.”
In addition, EnServ allows branches to connect to their
main server or synchronise their data across the internet,
considerably reducing data communication costs.
The combination of secure and faster internet access makes
many online information resources far more valuable to the
veterinary practice.
The
one-off cost of EnServ is £1186 or £1306,
for ADSL or ISDN connectivity respectively, with monthly
support fees of £10 for Enserv alone or £25 for
the added EnBox.
